Tuesday Tidbits...

**  I was sooooo tempted to call this post Tuesday tantrums today...

**  So close if fact that I actually wrote it, ranted for a bit, and decided to start the post again...

**  All because I made another stupid mistake!

**  Another one of these stupid mistakes to be exact.

**  Which led to me having to cut off a bit more of the t-shirt I was using to make myself a dress than I have planned...

**  Which in turn led to me making a dress with no waist - basically I just made myself a really pretty pregnancy dress...

photo courtesy of Hannah (my 3 year old) - hence the slight lack of focus. But she did well!

**  GAH I could stamp my feet because you'd think I'd learn!

**  I do actually have a bit more shape hiding under there than this dress indicates. Just.

**  On the plus side it's really cool and comfortable for summer though because there's no clingy bits!

**  Perhaps I will have a look for a belt to go with it next time I'm at the shops.

**  But that kind of defeats the purpose because to date it has only cost me between $15-20. So I was feeling all pleased with myself before because it was going to be such a cheap but pretty dress.

**  Anyway... moving on! Sorry for the rant!

**  I sewed my first pattern last week. It was a pig of a thing to choose for a first pattern too because it had a square neck. So yay me for getting there!

**  It was a commission for a friends daughters 2nd birthday...

**  I've also been looking at patterns online

**  Have you got any good (in other words cheap) links that you purchase patterns from for either kids or adults clothes?

**  I'm also working on some design work this week for a few clients & then I can work on some more of my cheeky quilt.

**  How's your Christmas list looking?

**  Mine is looking long and overwhelming! I haven't actually done a thing (including writing my list down on paper)

**  Time to get cracking I think!

**  But it looks like I'm going to get the chance this week because we are stuck home with Hannah now sick.

**  The doctor confirmed my suspicions this morning of ear & sinus infection so now she's on antibiotics too.

**  Hopefully it's the same bug that required Abbie & I to both need antibiotics and it doesn't decide to do the rounds again! (Abbie's been better a while now).

**  Linking up today with fabric Tuesday (where they have the cutest quilt on show this week I have to say!)

There are some lovely patterns on etsy from a variety of makers. Just search 'PDF pattern' and you'll get a bunch. I also really like
make it perfect' patterns, they are easy and the fit is great. They are not PDF though, you buy online and they mail it you.

Love the square neckline and the ruffled sleeves. Reasonably priced PDF patterns from:

Oh Kat - you`ve put a smile on my face (I know you won`t mind me saying that) and I hear where you are coming from! Sorry to hear your little one is sick and hoping the `biotics kick in quick. Will be interested to read the replies especially about adult patterns as I`m always on the look on for good ones - can`t buy clothes here. Impossible. I`m a completely different height and shape to Moroccan women. Hope you have a better day tomorrow.

Hi Kat! Wonderful dresses and Hannah took great photo! Perhaps your dress is not exactly what you meant, but it looks noce, cool and very comfortable! I would need that for the summer.

Well, if this is of ant help at all, I say that I´ve sewed for my daughter from age 2 to 14 with basis on a Simplicity pattern I´ve bought on sale and cost less than 2bucks.
My daughter is 22 now. I save the pattern so I can sew her children a few dresses someday.
No matter what brand you choose to buy - McCall´s, Butterick, whatever - be sure to invest in a "full" pattern. I mean : with short + long sleeves, armhole ruffles, different collars, everything, so that you can start from basics and go on trying the different options. Also be sure to buy a pattern that includes many sizes. As kids grow and become more demanding the better you get at sewing for them.
I always take a look at "out of print" patterns.
I´ll be back in order to learn from other answers.
I love you blog!
Cheers.

That's a really cute dress! I think a narrow belt under the bust would give it a gorgeous retro 50's feel! Sorry to hear sickness is still in your household. Hope you are germ free soon. Jxo

Don't suppose you want to take it to pieces and add another bit back in ...?

Good your daughter is getting the medicine she needs to get rid of her bug - this house it still full of germs and they are all out to get me next!

I know the feeling! To spend all that time on something & not like its whens it done?! Very frustrating! Any of the Mccalls, Simplicity patterns are good. I have a Christmas list started, need to get sewing & buying!! Thank goodness for online shopping!:)Hope your little Hannah is feeling better soon!

Hmm, you could try making an obi belt, they're trendy and quilting cotton works for them (unless, of course, you're experiencing a sudden shortage in that area ;o) )

I think you're being way too hard on yourself. Your dress looks cute and very summery and you look fabulous in it.The little girls dress looks so pretty too.

I hope Hannah gets better soon.

The only suggestion I can make about patterns (since I don't use them !) is to wait until Spotlight has a two for one sale or go trawling for free patterns on the internet.

I lived in loose dresses with no waist when I spent my years in tropical climates. You can't beat them for comfortable and when it is stinking hot out you want comfort more than anything. So I do believe you made yourself a summer dress that will get used lots. Enjoy it, even if it isn't what you planned!

Etsy is my go to place for patterns and to date I have found most of them great, though not as detailed as your tutes.

It must have been the day for dress making yesterday. I picked up a full length skirt for $2 at the church oppy yesterday and unpicked the whole thing to make a dress...love how it turned out, will be lovely and light to wear in the summer months.
